» Italian Police Keep Beaches Safe With This Custom Jeep Wrangler
Sep 19, 2018 - 12:35 AM - by Jimmyb

Italian Police Keep Beaches Safe With This Custom Jeep WranglerThe last FCA product to wear the Carabinieri police uniform was the Fiat Tipo; a total of 500 units were committed to patrolling Italian roads. But the relationship between the Group, led by Sergio Marchionne, and the police force has now been renewed thanks to a new recruit: the Jeep Wrangler.

The SUV debuted in the Carabinieri fleet today, in the presence of General Commander Giovanni Nistri, Deputy Commander Riccardo Amato, Chief Executive Officer of FCA, Sergio Marchionne, and COO of the EMEA Region, Alfredo Altavilla. A sort of last hoorah for the U.S. off-roader – which has already been replaced by a new generation presented at the last Detroit Motor Show – its task will be to provide services between Cattolica and Bellaria, but not just on asphalt.

The Carabinieri Jeep Wrangler (nicknamed Gazella, or Gazelle) will drive directly onto the shoreline, Baywatch style, patrolling the hottest parts of

» 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Gets Moab Edition
Sep 02, 2018 - 10:08 PM - by Jimmyb

2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Gets Moab EditionJeep is no stranger to special editions. The beloved Jeep Wrangler JK, for example, was available in six different option packages—each with its own unique styling—beyond the usual Sport, Sport S, Sahara, and Rubicon trim levels.

If you wanted a bare-bones interior but some added off-road capability, you’d probably want the Wrangler JK Willys Wheeler. If you were keen on boulevard style, there was Altitude. And a life of max-attack trail action meant you were destined for the Rubicon Recon.

But when the all-new 2018 Wrangler JL was introduced, it was available in just the core trim levels: inexpensive Sport, stylish Sport S, luxurious Sahara, and rugged Rubicon. That will soon change with the reveal of Jeep’s first special-edition JL, the Moab. Based on the Wrangler Sahara, the Moab Edition gets the sculpted hood of the Rubicon, as well as steel bumpers with removable

2019 Jeep Wrangler Moab spied near FCA headquarters?
If past history is any indication of future realities, expect to see a bunch of special editions and new model designations for the new JL Jeep Wrangler starting, well, right about now.

A member at JL Wrangler Forums spotted a car carrier about 10 miles from FCA headquarters on which sat a couple Wranglers. And one silver Unlimited model was wearing a conspicuous set of Moab stickers along with a bevy of bits and pieces cribbed from Jeep's expansive aftermarket parts catalog.

In addition to the Moab labeling, this Wrangler sports steel bumpers, blacked-out wheels and trim, and beefy BFGoodrich Mud Terrain KM2 tires. We also note body-color fender flares and a set of rock rails to keep the bodywork protected from boulders.

We only have one image and we can't see

» BREAKING: Jeep Head Mike Manley Named New CEO of Fiat Chrysler
Jul 22, 2018 - 2:15 AM - by Jimmyb

BREAKING: Jeep Head Mike Manley Named New CEO of Fiat Chrysler
Mike Manley, the man behind the rise of the Jeep Brand to be worth more then $35 Billion, has been rewarded for his skills by being named as CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The announcement came Saturday after an emergency meeting of the FCA Board of Directors. According to the Toledo Blade, the Board meeting was called as a result of Sergio Marchionne’s rapidly deteriorating health following a recent surgery.

Mr. Marchionne is widely regarded as the man who rescued Chrysler, the parent company of Jeep, out of Bankruptcy.

Mike Manley has run the Jeep division since 2009 and, as reported by The Blade, the decision to become FCA CEO is being praised by FCA’s partners including the United Auto Workers.

Expectations will be high for the 54 year old Manley, including the ongoing commitment to keep Jeep as part of FCA and to continue

Jeep Wrangler pickup truck hitting dealers in April 2019
Next year, Jeep dealers will have an additional model on hand, and it's one many enthusiasts have waited for: a Wrangler pickup.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles confirmed plans for the Wrangler pickup, likely to be called the Scrambler, during a recent dealer meeting. Attending dealers also learned that the vehicle will arrive in showrooms in April 2019, Automotive News (subscription required) reported Friday. The timeline likely means we'll see the Wrangler pickup debut sometime this year, or early next year.

FCA previously confirmed the Wrangler pickup will be produced at the Toledo, Ohio, facility in the South plant. Meanwhile, Wrangler SUV production is taking place at the Toledo plant's North facility.

When the Wrangler pickup debuts, it will likely feature a crew-cab layout to start, and with a hard-top or soft-top roof option. Compared to the Wrangler SUV, the pickup should be around

» Jeep Grand Commander debuts at 2018 Beijing auto show

Jeep Grand Commander debuts at 2018 Beijing auto show
Jeep's Grand Commander made its debut on Wednesday at the 2018 Beijing auto show.

The three-row crossover SUV has been developed exclusively for the Chinese market so won't be sold in the United States. The low approach and departure angles belie Jeep’s off-road credentials, which is probably why.

The Grand Commander was previewed by the plug-in hybrid Jeep Yuntu concept presented at the 2017 Shanghai auto show, however it doesn't feature an electrified option just yet.

Instead the Grand Commander debuts with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 delivering 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Drive is sent to either the front wheels or all four via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Underpinning the vehicle is a stretched version of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Compact U.S. Wide (CUSW) platform, which is also found in the Cherokee. The Grand Commander has a total

Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Deserthawk and plug-in models coming soon
BOLOCCO, Italy — Today at FCA's Italian proving ground, Mike Manley rolled out the roadmap for Jeep's next five years.

Manley has been in charge of Jeep since 2009 and has helped boost sales to more than 1.5 million units globally thanks to the success of models like the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler and submodels like the Trailhawk and Trackhawk. Well, there's more on the way, including new sand-prepped Deserthawk models, the return of the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer nameplates, and electrified versions of every model by 2021.

While the plan for these next five years is a little less firm than the last one, it does provide the American automaker with some flexibility and breathing room. If you'll remember, by 2018 we were already supposed to have a new version of the

2019 Jeep Renegade Limited and Trailhawk revealed with updated styling
A few weeks back, we got our first glimpse of the refreshed 2019 Jeep Renegade. The Italian-built compact crossover is currently the smallest model in Jeep's lineup.

Details were scarce, but we now have some new info on the European-spec model as well as a whole batch of photos of both the Renegade Limited and Renegade Trailhawk.

Visually, both the Limited and Trailhawk models get revised front fascias with dark LED and Xenon lighting that mimics the new Jeep Wrangler JL. The Limited's bumper includes more body-color panels with new turn signals, fog lights and a lower air intake. Outside of the new lighting, the only real change to the front of the Trailhawk is the lack of a bright red front tow hook. In the rear, both models get new taillights, though the

» 2018 Jeep Wrangler production ending to make way for Jeep pickup
Mar 18, 2018 - 12:03 AM - by Jimmyb

Jeep Wrangler Ute OzAfter more than a decade in production, the outgoing JK generation Jeep Wrangler is set to end production on April 7. According to Automotive News, parts supplier Hyundai Mobis North America notified the State of Ohio that production was ending.

The Toledo, Ohio, plant where the Jeep is built is already deep into production of the replacement JL generation Wrangler. The big news isn't that JK production is ending but that the plant is retooling in order to get Wrangler pickup production underway.

Details on the Wrangler pickup are scarce. Jeep hasn't said anything, so most of what we know comes from various spy shots. Basically, expect a JL Wrangler Unlimited with a bed. That's a good thing. We were quite smitten with the Wrangler when we drove it late last year. It's better equipped and more refined than ever.

» The truth about the 2018 JL Wrangler
Mar 18, 2018 - 12:03 AM - by Jimmyb

2018 Jeep Wrangler JL Exterior AccessoriesJeep crows about its Wrangler being the standard for off-road driving. As my colleague Andrew Ganz found in Arizona, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler is a dynamite car in the dirt.

While the 2018 Wrangler, a JL to all the fans, certainly will be a fixture on trails and in mud bogs, it's also the vehicle that will get plenty of folks to school and work without ever setting a tire off road. The Wrangler will be a grocery getter, a commuter car, and in 4-door trim, perhaps the most capable method of getting the kids to soccer practice this side of a Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen, or Toyota Land Cruiser.

To find out how the 2018 Wrangler improved for those daily commuters, I borrowed a Rubicon Unlimited with a 6-speed manual and 3.6-liter V-6—easily the most enthusiast-focused member of the Wrangler family—and put 267 miles of commuter-class travel on it.

The Good: The new Wrangler takes so much from its World War II

» 2019 Jeep Cherokee Review
Mar 18, 2018 - 12:02 AM - by Jimmyb

2019 Jeep Cherokee ReviewThe 2019 Jeep Cherokee gets more conventional styling this year and adds a powerful turbo-4 engine. It retains its off-road prowess, especially in the Trailhawk model, and it’s comfortable on pavement too.

Interior room is an issue even though interior materials are not. Crash-test results are less than stellar, though Jeep makes plenty of active safety features available.

In addition to Trailhawk, Jeep offers the Cherokee in Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, and Overland trims. We rate it a 6.2 out of 10. (Read more about how we rate cars.) The Cherokee made its debut for the 2014 model year and it is updated for 2019 with new styling, a new engine, an updated infotainment system, and revised transmission and suspension tuning.

The Cherokee’s new looks do away with the oddball six-eyed look of the previous model and bring the lighting together where it’s supposed to be. The headlights are now LEDs with integrated daytime running

» Jeep Teases Concept Vehicles for 2018 Easter Jeep Safari
Mar 18, 2018 - 12:02 AM - by Jimmyb

Jeep Teases Concept Vehicles for 2018 Easter Jeep SafariWe’re just a couple weeks away from the 2018 Easter Jeep Safari, which begins March 24 in Moab and coincides with the tail end of the 2018 Jp Dirt ‘N Drive Presented by Jeep.

And the company behind the seven-slat grille is getting ready for the event in fine fashion: by teasing its new concepts that will debut among Utah’s red rocks.

Two of the concepts, teased yesterday, look like they’ll hearken back to Jeep’s glory days of the 1960s and 1970s, when off-roading as a hobby was just beginning to take off. The concepts are clearly based on the all-new 2018 Wrangler JL, each with a distinctly retro vibe.

The first illustration—by design legend Chris Piscitelli—shows a Wrangler JL, seemingly tearing across a desert landscape with a cloud of dust in tow.

It’s hard to see what will make this concept stand out from a stock Wrangler, although we
