» Counterfeit Manufacturers Caught at 2016 SEMA Show, U.S. Marshals Serve Papers
Nov 03, 2016 - 10:10 PM - by Jimmyb

sema 2016 Jeep Sema Coverage VegasJp Magazine contributor Traci Clark was a first-hand witness to an offshore exhibitor being served papers at the 2016 SEMA Show.

Well-known U.S.-based Jeep accessory manufacturer Omix-ADA noticed suspiciously familiar products being displayed at the show by Unity 4WD Accessories Co., Limited of Guangzhou, China.

The company filed a civil complaint with the U.S. District Court, and obtained a summons and civil action for a temporary restraining order and seizure of goods. U.S. Marshals served papers to the company’s representatives, and ordered the display dismantled and the goods in question removed.

From what we could gather from the photos we could get of the papers, it appears the company’s representatives will be required to appear in U.S. court within 21 days for a hearing.

Omix-ADA director of marketing Henk Van Dongen said that the company has noticed more

Nov 01, 2016 - 12:40 AM - by Jimmyb

sema 2016 Jeep Sema Coverage Vegas CJ66What do you get when you cross a Jeep TJ Wrangler, a ’66 Jeep CJ Tuxedo Park, and a Jeep JK Wrangler?

Throw into that tri-generational engineering concoction an until-today unconfirmed new powerplant, and you have the Jeep CJ66. That is Mopar’s latest concept Jeep on display for the very first time at the 2016 SEMA Show, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The new engine was upgraded with a Mopar cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust system, helping to feed more power into the six-speed manual transmission. The gear-stuffed logs you see underneath the Copper Canyon-colored body are Mopar Dana 44 Crate axles.

A two-inch suspension lift helps fit 35-inch BFGoodrich all-terrain tires wrapped around Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) 17-inch beadlock wheels underneath the oversized “concept” fenders of the CJ66.

The body got even more goodies. Mopar 10th Anniversary Wrangler JK

» Jeep Grand Wagoneer to tackle Range Rover
Oct 08, 2016 - 1:12 AM - by Jimmyb

Jeep Grand Wagoneer AustraliaThe Range Rover-rivalling Jeep Grand Wagoneer is due in 2018 and could push Jeep into the 80k price bracket

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer luxury SUV is moving closer to reality with Jeep planing to push its brand into the premium SUV space occupied by the likes of the Range Rover, Porsche's Cayenne and BMW's X5 in Europe. Speaking at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, Jeep boss Mike Manley outlined that while Jeep will be exploring smaller SUVs, the brand would also like to bring back the Wagoneer as a luxury model to sit at the top of the range.

He told us “the Grand Wagoneer concept is moving forward. It’s an exciting nameplate to bring back, I think.”

Manley believes a Grand Wagoneer can compete with the Range Rover and models like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, adding “I don’t think there’s a maximum price ceiling per se for Jeep. If you look at the upper end of the segment in the

» 2017 Jeep Compass Trailhawk and Limited revealed
Oct 03, 2016 - 1:28 AM - by Jimmyb

The new 2017 Jeep Compass TrailhawkJeep on Monday unveiled its 2017 Compass, the replacement for both the existing Compass as well as the Patriot.

Jeep only released a handful of photos following the unveiling but more photos plus video have since emerged on the automaker’s media site for Brazil.

The new photos reveal the Trailhawk off-roader as well as the Limited model.

As expected, the Compass Trailhawk gets a number of Jeep’s familiar off-roading kit such as tow hooks, raised suspension and the Jeep Selec-Terrain driving modes selector. The vehicle also likely adopts the Jeep Active Drive Low 4x4 systems from the Renegade Trailhawk. The two vehicles are platform mates, after all.

» The new 2017 Jeep Compass manages to actually look like a Jeep
Sep 27, 2016 - 12:12 AM - by Jimmyb

The new 2017 Jeep Compass manages to actually look like a JeepJeep just revealed the all-new, next-generation Compass in Brazil to celebrate the opening of its plant in Goiana, Pernambuco. The Brazilian manufacturing facility commenced production of Jeep vehicles today, giving the company a cheaper place to build SUVs destined for certain Latin American markets.

The Compass was accidentally leaked last week, and Jeep's official confirmation proves that leak was accurate.

While the company released limited details about the Compass, the images show a vehicle that looks slightly larger than the one it’s replacing, with styling that features a blend of Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, and Renegade cues. The roofline and overall proportions are straight out of the Cherokee’s crossover-spec playbook, while the rear quarter-windows and beltline look very similar to the Renegade. Thankfully, Jeep’s most attractive SUV

» Leaked photos on 2018 Jeep Compass
Sep 20, 2016 - 12:20 AM - by Jimmyb

Leaked photos on 2018 Jeep Compass Jeep's new SUV to sit between the Renegade and Cherokee has been outed. A handful of photos on Saturday surfaced on Autoo (via World Car Fans) after the compact SUV was spotted in an official photo shoot at a location in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The debut is meant to take place later this year at a special ceremony at Jeep’s plant in Pernambuco, Brazil, where it will be built. It's likely we'll see it for the first time on local soil at November's 2016 Los Angeles auto show.

Jeep CEO Mike Manley has stated that the company would stick with either Compass or Patriot for the name of the compact SUV, and that Compass was the preferred option as it was more familiar to buyers around the globe.

The photos confirm Compass is the chosen name as it is plastered on the flanks of the vehicle in the photos. The photos also reveal familiar Jeep styling cues combined with some modern touches such as the

» Aluminum in the all new 2018 Jeep Wrangler
Sep 20, 2016 - 12:20 AM - by Jimmyb

Aluminum in the all new 2018 Jeep WranglerA redesigned Jeep Wrangler is due to enter production in 2017 at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ [NYSE:FCAU] plant in Toledo, Ohio. It should arrive in showrooms that year, as a 2018 model.

From our spy shots we know the Wrangler’s rugged lines won’t be changing much. However, there will be some radical differences in the design aimed mostly at improving fuel economy. One of these will be the use of aluminum to help shed the pounds.

FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne in May 2015 said the automaker will stick with conventional steel for most of the construction though there will be aluminum for hung-on parts.

We now have a few specifics on some of the new Wrangler’s aluminum parts.

A leaked memo from Alcoa, obtained by Jeep Wrangler Forums, reveals that door inners and the outer and inner sections for the hood will be aluminum. The memo also reveals that

» Chinese Reveals 6x6 Jeep Tomahawk
Sep 14, 2016 - 10:41 PM - by Jimmyb

Chinese Reveals 6x6 Jeep TomahawkA Chinese company by the name of G. Patton has unveiled a 6x6 variant of the Jeep Wrangler which it dubs the Tomahawk.

Showcased at the Chengdu Auto Show, the car takes a standard Wrangler and adds an extra axle at the rear to make it reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6.

According to Car News China, in order to create the Tomahawk, G. Patton cut the American off-roader behind the C-pillar and then added an enclosed pickup truck bed.

It also went about outfitting the Pentastar 3.6-liter V6 engine with a supercharger and, while no performance figures have been released, the added oomph should help offset the added weight.

Much of the vehicle's exterior styling remains unchanged from the Wrangler with the exception of a bespoke front fascia and grille and some tweaks to the rear.

According to Fox 13, Nathan Dornacher and his wife Lydia were cruising garage sales in St. Petersburg, Florida on Labor Day with their daughter and their service dog.

They stopped at home to unload a desk they'd purchased earlier. While they got the desk out of the Cherokee's hatch Nathan left his shiny new Galaxy Note 7 charging in the Jeep's center console.
